In a water vapor fireplace, also known as Opti-Myst or Mystic Fire, the flame effect is created by means of light projection onto ultrafine water vapor. The water vapor is generated by ultrasonic evaporation using a vaporizer, after which the water vapor rises by means of the heat from halogen lamps or a heating coil. Unfortunately, water vapor fireplaces do require maintenance due to the combination of water (limescale) and electricity.

The water vapor from the Opti-Myst water vapor fireplace rises primarily due to the addition of heat. This heat can come from a heating coil or from halogen lamps.

If LED lamps are used, the Opti-Myst contains a heating coil. If halogen lamps are used, this heating coil is not necessary.

The energy consumption of halogen lamps is lower than the consumption of LED lamps in combination with a heating coil.

It is recommended to regularly clean the evaporator and the water tank of the Opti-Myst water vapor fireplace. The evaporator lasts between 6 and 12 months under normal use and must be replaced afterwards.

Using water with less lime and cleaning regularly extends the lifespan of the evaporator.

The production or import of halogen lamps for direct connection to the mains (such as lighting) has been prohibited within the EU since September 1, 2018. The halogen lamps used in a water vapor fireplace are exempt from this ban.
